Mr.Tatsuo Ii who is known as a student of armor and swords, and is the director of Ii Museum published the book of the talk style by a joint work with Mr. Yo Tsumoto of the history novelist with a Naoki Prize writer. It is a thing since "the appreciation basic knowledge of the Japanese sword" (written by Nobuo Ogasawara of the General Manager those days Tokyo National Museum sword) of 1988 that Tsumoto talks with a person concerned with sword. In the chapter to "try the sharpness" then was short.
We tended to watch a Japanese sword only from the artistic side, but I read this talk, and I feel that the Japanese sword is originally a weapon some other time till now. They make 36 themes by the talk and it is impressive by contents talking about each other's true intentions freely literally. Because it is talked based on abundant evidence, there is persuasive power."The truth of the assassination of Ryoma", "a case out of Sakurada-mon Gate", "the mystery of the Honnoji-Temple Incident", etc. are the contents which anyone want to know. The interest does not run out. It draws a reading person steadily, and it is the book which does not have elaborate shoulder letting you and finish reading all too soon. The content that I won through up to an impression is that dojo studio kendo and the actual fighting are another thing really. In addition, sympathy talk of Naosuke Ii (the fact that only the author who is the descendant of the the Yoita feudal clan Iis can know) or the discrimination in the social position in the Hikone feudal clan that it is not thought today that are not known stay in the impression, too.
In this book,,a column and a footnote are accomplished in at every turn and they supply information on the talk. I want to recommend reading to a person engaged in sword and armor by all means.
(It was omitted partly on the occasion of translation.)
